Career Information

The following is a web-liography, and online list of sources that maybe helpful for library patrons who are in the midst of a career change. This list will be updated on a continuous basis to provide the most up to date information. We hope that you find it helpful.

Occupational Outlook Handbook
This is the government's "bible" for career-changers. Details for various professional and general jobs, with educational requirements and potential earnings. Available in the LPL Reference room (Ref. 331.7 Occupational) and in a print version for borrowing (331.7 Occupational). The online version is searchable wwww.bls.gov/oco

The best-known site for job hunters www.monster.com
Monster.com is an acquired taste.

Related to What color is your parachute? is www.jobhuntersbible.com
If you work around the ads you can find some useful information, good advice and links to further help.

The following is a great resource for learning to write great resumes, cover letters and other job-related writing and interview skills. This on-line resource has actual courses guiding you through the process of job-hunting. It's the Boston Public Library's own web site www.bpl.org. Click on Electronic Resources and select Learn-a-test. You will need a BPL card, you can apply over the internet for an on-line card, and upgrade to a full-use card when you visit the BPL or any of it's branches.

While we continue to "grow" this web-liography please check out the following blog from the Newton Free Library entitled Newton's Quick Job search blog jobsearchchatter.wordpress.com
